Men’s wear designer John Varvatos celebrated Ringo’s 74th birthday a few weeks ago by launching, in honor of Ringo Starr, the #PeaceRocks campaign to benefit the David Lynch Foundation’s outreach to at-risk adults and youth. Through December 2014, every time you or a friend upload a picture flashing the peace sign along with the #PeaceRocks hashtag via Instagram, Twitter, Vine, and Facebook, Varvatos will donate $1 to the “Ringo Starr Peace & Love Fund.”
Since its launch, tens of thousands of people across the globe have shared their #PeaceRocks peace signs in support of the cause.
“I urge everyone to join us and use #PeaceRocks. For every upload, John will donate a dollar to the ‘Ringo Starr Peace & Love Fund’ that through the David Lynch Foundation teaches Transcendental Meditation to people at-risk and suffering,” Ringo told the global press during an Los Angeles news conference to announce the new fund.
John Varvatos said: “Ringo’s music and heart are unique, not only in the rock n’ roll world but the world in general. Knowing and working with him has been one of the most motivating and stimulating experiences in my life.”
It’s simple, easy and fun to contribute to the #PeaceRocks campaign, and perfect for racking up some likes for your social media profile—all for a good cause. Simply snap a photo of yourself (a selfie!) or ask a friend to take your photo holding up the peace sign. Then post the image either via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and/or Vine with the following tags: @davidlynchfoundation, @johnvarvatos, @ringostarrmusic and #PeaceRocks. One dollar will then be donated to Ringo’s fund, which will go toward teaching TM to at-risk youth, women who are survivors of domestic violence, and veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress.
