| To know yourself by david | |
Meditation sounds like being selfish. It sounds like it’s all about the individual, and it doesn’t matter what the rest of the world is or wants.
No. It’s opposite of selfish, because we’re like light bulbs. And you go into a room where a couple has just had a violent argument: you can feel that. You can feel that; it’s not pleasant. You go into a room where someone just finished meditating, and it’s a beautiful feeling. And since we’re like light bulbs, the more of this we have, the more that we enjoy internally—but we affect our environment. And that’s the key to individual enlightenment and the key to world peace.
In a way, it is selfish. It’s the Self. It’s for yourself, to know yourself. There’s a phrase: “Know thy Self.” This is the Self. It’s us. It’s so beautiful. It’s not against anything. It’s beautiful.
