The start of Transcendental Meditation by david

How did you get interested in meditation?

When I first heard about meditation, I had zero interest in it. And I’d hear it, but I wasn’t even curious about it. I was not for it nor against it; I just didn’t care to know about it.

And I had these phrases coming that we all hear, that “True happiness doesn’t exist out there; true happiness lies within.” And that phrase always got me. But in that phrase, they don’t tell you where the “within” is, nor do they tell you how to get there. And that used to really bother me.

And then I started thinking that maybe meditation was that way to go within. And I started looking into meditation. And I got a kind of a drive to find something. And it was looking into meditation, talking to people, asking questions—and I was contemplating some different forms. And at that moment, my sister called and said that she had started Transcendental Meditation. And I heard something in her voice, and what she said about it; those two things married, and I said, “That’s what I’ve got to have.”

And so I went down and I started. That was years ago, and I’ve been meditating twice a day ever since.
